Authorities in California are seeking public assistance in locating the individual responsible for a shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including three children, during a family gathering at a banquet hall in Stockton. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday at the banquet hall, with three children aged 8, 9, and 14, along with a 21-year-old, losing their lives due to the gunfire. San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow stated that the shooting may have involved multiple shooters and extended outside the venue.
In addition to the fatalities, eleven individuals sustained injuries, with at least one in critical condition. Sheriff Withrow urged anyone with relevant information, including tips, cellphone videos, or witness testimonies, to come forward to assist in the investigation.
The sheriff emphasized the need for community cooperation in condemning such acts of violence, especially when innocent children are targeted. Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, indicated that investigators believe the incident was deliberate, although specific details regarding the motive or intended targets were not disclosed by officials.
Mayor Christina Fugazi expressed sorrow over the loss of the young victims, highlighting that they should have been enjoying the holiday season instead of facing such a tragic fate. One victim, 21-year-old Susano Archuleta, was identified by his brother, Emmanuel Lopez, as among those who lost their lives in the shooting.
The incident took place shortly before 6 p.m. inside the banquet hall, situated in Stockton, a city located 65 kilometers south of Sacramento with a population of 320,000. Stockton has experienced a higher homicide rate compared to the state average, with 54 homicides reported in 2024 and 34 recorded as of October this year.
Efforts to apprehend the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting are ongoing as authorities work to bring justice to the victims and their families.
