Lightspeed Commerce Inc. has announced that 250 positions will be affected as part of its workforce reduction strategy, including not filling certain job openings. The Montreal-headquartered software company stated that these measures are intended to streamline operations, freeing up resources to focus on enhancing customer growth and developing new products.
Stephanie Princivil, a spokesperson for Lightspeed, declined to specify which departments within the company are being targeted for layoffs and vacancy eliminations but mentioned that further details will be disclosed during the upcoming quarterly earnings report.
This move is part of a series of workforce reductions that Lightspeed has implemented in recent years, coinciding with Dax Dasilva’s return to the role of founder and CEO. In addition to the layoffs, the company underwent a strategic review last year to enhance shareholder value, ultimately deciding to concentrate on its North American retail and European hospitality sectors while divesting Upserve, a subsidiary specializing in restaurant management solutions.
