In a recent auction, a lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s detached hand from the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold for a record-breaking $3.75 million. This sale marked the highest price ever achieved for a prop used in a “Star Wars” film, as confirmed by the auction house.
The upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction by Heritage Auctions on November 12 will feature a Darth Vader lightsaber that was used in the iconic duel scene in Cloud City, where the famous line “I am your father” was delivered to Skywalker. This lightsaber, also seen in “Return of the Jedi,” is anticipated to command a minimum of $1 million. It is part of a collection of over two dozen lightsaber props going up for auction, spanning across “Star Wars” Episodes I to IX, and other productions set in George Lucas’ universe.
Among the items to be auctioned are the lightsabers wielded by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” each expected to sell for at least $10,000. Additionally, an EE-3 carbine blaster used by Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back” is estimated to fetch over $100,000.
Notable pieces in the auction include a Yoda puppet hand used by Frank Oz in the original appearance of the character in “The Empire Strikes Back,” Anthony Daniels’ signed third-draft screenplay for the 1977 “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
