Elgin County provincial police have pressed charges against a Southwold resident previously employed at a St. Thomas elementary school after investigating an alleged sexual luring incident. The 59-year-old man faces accusations of sexual misconduct, with charges including two counts each of soliciting sexual services and communicating with a person under 18 for such purposes.
The London District Catholic School Board (LDCSB) verified the individual’s past association with one of its elementary schools, clarifying that he was present at the school indirectly, not as a direct LDCSB employee, as stated in a letter shared with CBC News. Police initiated the investigation following a report at a Southwold Township location, revealing two known victims linked to the accused and expressing concerns about potential undisclosed victims.
Authorities urge potential victims to come forward and seek assistance from law enforcement and local support services. The accused has been detained for bail, with no confirmed court appearance date announced yet. While investigations are ongoing, the LDCSB cautioned against unfounded speculations, particularly on social media, emphasizing the importance of safety within the school community and encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact the OPP.
