Steven Taqtu emerged as the chosen representative for the Nunavut constituency of Quttiktuq following a recent recount. This recount, the third in Nunavut due to tight margins on election day, solidified Taqtu’s victory. With 121 votes out of a total of 253 in the riding, Taqtu narrowly surpassed Philip Kalluk by a mere 14 votes. It will mark Taqtu’s debut in the Nunavut Legislative Assembly.

Additionally, judicial recounts were also conducted in Pangnirtung and Aggu due to similarly close races. Johnny Mike will now represent Pangnirtung in the seventh Legislative Assembly, having previously served the community during the fourth assembly from 2013 to 2017. Meanwhile, Aggu voters will need to return to the polls as a tie was discovered between the two competing candidates during the recount. Efforts to determine the date for the new Aggu election are underway, with CBC News reaching out to Kiran Situt, the Chief Electoral Officer of Elections Nunavut, for further details.
