Frank Bruno makes first appearance since ‘dramatic’ recovery from sudden illness on flight

Must read

Frank Bruno was spotted ringside for the fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, with the boxing legend having recovered from a recent illness.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Bruno sparked fears when he was taken ill on a long-haul flight last month.

The 63-year-old treated by medics at Doha airport before being taken to hospital for further tests. Bruno remained in hospital for two weeks and was diagnosed with a viral infection.

Last month Bruno tweeted to reassure fans that he was on the mend, writing: “The last 3 weeks have been tough especially not knowing what was wrong with me and a Viral infection can mean loads of things between Dave in the office (manager Dave Davies) and me we’ll keep you informed.

“At the moment I am told I cannot go to work so for the jobs last week and this weekend please accept my apology however the office is telling me most bookers want to transfer the booked dates. The office tells me already this morning hundreds of messages from well wishers so thank you. I can’t wait to get back to work.”

Davies had previously explained: “Frank was flying out to work in Thailand when he was taken ill on the plane at Doha. Medical crew attended Frank on the plane and at hospital. He’s now recovering and hopes to be back at work as soon as possible.”

Bruno’s appearance on fight night came after Eubank Jr’s father Chris had surprised fans by turning up to the fight to support his son.

Eubank Sr had spent the build-up to the fight criticising his son and saying that wouldn’t be at ringside, but he criticised Benn for saying that he didn’t like Chris Jr.

Chris Sr said: “Conor, that’s not fair to say I don’t like my son. I love my son; I don’t like some of his ways, like I don’t like some of your ways, but I love him.”
