Liverpool fans face the prospect of paying £675 for a ticket if they want to be at Anfield for Sunday’s potential Premier League title party. The Reds only need to avoid defeat against Tottenham to be crowned champions.
The Kop was empty when Liverpool won the Premier League for the one and only time due to Covid restrictions. It means their success this term will be the first time the players will be able to party with their fanbase.
Anyone who wants to be present though needs to shell out several hundred. Despite a desire to clamp down on touts and resale sites, tickets are being put on the market for just shy of £700, according to the Daily Mail, and that was the cheapest ticket on the market.
Liverpool have long been seen as likely champions. They’ve remained consistent throughout the season and that has allowed them to retain a healthy lead over Arsenal in second.
Arne Slot’s side were tipped to struggle in the aftermath of Jurgen Klopp but they’ve exceeded all expectations to lead the top flight, but the Dutchman is still focused on seeing the job through.
He said: “Everybody is looking forward to Sunday but we know there is still a job to be done, at least one point. That’s what we know and hopefully our fans know as well when they come to the stadium, that they support us in the best possible way they can – which is what they have done the whole season – and are aware of the fact that we still need a point.
“That’s something we are definitely aware of here inside this building. So, it’s a nice game to look forward to but it’s also a responsibility we have for Sunday.”
Liverpool did have their sights set on numerous pieces of silverware in early March, but several setbacks mean their eggs are all into the Premier League basket. Several of the squad – Cody Gakpo – weren’t present for the 2020 success and could land their first medal.
The striker said: “This is the moment we all worked so hard for the whole year. Obviously we lost the [Carabao Cup] final, we were out of the FA Cup, we got knocked out of the Champions League as well. They were moments where we were maybe not as good as we wanted to be. But if we can win it at the weekend it’s an amazing season for all of us and something we can really build on in the future.”
