You season 5 fans taken back by mini Gossip Girl reunion in Netflix finale

Must read

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from You season five.

Netflix’s hit drama You has wrapped up, but not before welcoming a former Gossip Girl star for a surprise cameo in its fifth and final season.

After a disastrous stint in London during You’s fourth season, Joe Goldberg (portrayed by Penn Badgley) has spent the last three years back in New York with his wife Kate Lockwood (played by Charlotte Ritchie).

With Kate’s assistance, Joe manages to reunite with his son Henry, who was under the care of Dante (Ben Mehl) and his husband from the third season.

However, Joe starts worrying that his violent tendencies might have been passed on to Henry when he and Kate are summoned to meet with the school counsellor following an incident where Henry punched his cousin.

Joe and Kate sit down with Dr Val, who informs them that Henry needs to be suspended.

However, Netflix viewers were left scratching their heads when they recognised the counsellor.

Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new Sky Stream TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.

This lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like You and Black Mirror.

Dr Val is played by actress Michelle Hurd, who Gossip Girl fans may recall as Laurel from the first two seasons.

Laurel was a fashion photographer who worked closely with Blair Waldorf’s (Leighton Meester) mother Eleanor Waldorf (Margaret Colin).

Ambitious and eager to climb the career ladder, Laurel views Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen), who is interning at the company over the summer, as a potential threat.

Fans of the hit series Gossip Girl and You were left stunned when they realised actress Michelle Hurd played roles in both shows.

On Reddit, a user posted a side-by-side comparison of Hurd’s characters, prompting one fan to exclaim: “She didn’t recognize Dan Humphrey. Did she?”

Another was thrilled with this revelation: “I kept trying to search where I knew her from. Omg thank you.”

Others couldn’t hide their surprise with reactions like: “Omg no way”, and a more skeptical viewer added: “Ain’t no way.”

One particularly animated fan commented on how they reacted to seeing Hurd on screen: “Every time I saw her, I kept screaming into the screen saying ‘Joe should just kill her cuz she did Dan’s sister Jenny so dirty in Gossip Girl.”

But it wasn’t just these dramas that had viewers recognising Hurd; she also portrayed Detective Monique Jeffries in the iconic Law And Order: SVU in the late ’90s until 2001, and starred as Raffi Musiker alongside Patrick Stewart in Star Trek: Picard.
