A 47-year-old man in Spain has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for making his elderly mother a “prisoner in her own home” and raping her on an almost daily basis.
Named only as Rafael CDVM by Spanish media, he was convicted in Cadiz for repeatedly sexually assaulting his 83-year-old mother, who later died. The abuse took place in Chiclana de la Frontera and came to light in spring 2023 after two of the woman’s caregivers discovered blood on her underwear, according to court documents seen by Spanish newspaper El País. The same caregivers had earlier witnessed Rafael threatening to “kick” his mother and “rip her head off.” The victim told them: “My little boy slept here today, and I don’t want him to. I don’t want him in my bed.”
After reports were filed, social services intervened and the woman revealed her son “does it almost every day.” However, she died seven months later, and her statement could not be used at trial. Instead, her caregivers, a social worker and a forensic expert testified. Rafael’s defence claimed he had an intellectual disability, but forensic doctors concluded he had “sufficient capacity to discern what was right and wrong.”
It comes after a 27-year-old father was jailed for 17 years for raping and “prostituting” his seven-month-old daughter, and distributing footage of the abuse online. The man, named only as Santiago, had been under investigation since 2022 for circulating over 100 videos and 270 images of child pornography. Spanish police later discovered he had filmed two assaults on his daughter at his flat in Aluche, south-west Madrid.
He also uploaded the footage to the dark web. At the time of his 2023 arrest, he told officers: “I was sick and couldn’t stop what I was doing,” according to El Mundo. Santiago admitted to charges of assaulting a minor and producing child content. He has been banned from contacting his daughter within 500 metres and stripped of parental rights for 10 years.
