“Teen Faces Charges After Assault at London Restaurant”

A 16-year-old teenager is set to face charges related to weapons and assault following an incident where a group of approximately 30 youths purportedly damaged a restaurant and assaulted the owner on Friday evening in London, Ontario. Around 9:35 p.m., an employee at a business near North Centre Road and Fanshawe Park Road in the northern part of the city requested the group of teenagers to depart as they were causing disturbances among customers, as stated by the London Police Service on Monday. The situation escalated when one of the teenagers engaged in an argument with the employee, leading to physical assault and threats with a knife. Subsequently, another employee intervened, and the teenager hurled a water bottle at them before fleeing on foot. The incident occurred outside the Masonville location of Plaza Sushi, previously covered by CBC News. CBC News obtained a medical report submitted to the police, detailing the injuries sustained by the owner during the attack that included facial bruising and swelling from a severe blow, along with bruises on other body parts. Franchise owner Minsoo Lee recounted that the confrontation began when a group of ten teenagers, comprising four girls who initially sought to use the restroom, were asked to leave after causing a delay for other patrons. The situation escalated when the teenagers engaged in disruptive behavior and directed racial slurs towards the staff. Following the girls’ exit, four boys attempted to use the restroom but were denied access. The group’s size swelled to over 30 individuals outside the establishment, leading to a commotion with garbage, cardboard, and glass bottles being thrown towards the restaurant from a nearby dumpster. When the owner intervened, the teenagers physically assaulted him, striking him, throwing rocks, and brandishing knives before fleeing prior to the police’s arrival. The authorities located the suspect nearby and subsequently charged the 16-year-old with two counts of assault with a weapon, assault, and disobeying a court order. Due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teenager’s identity cannot be disclosed. The individual is slated to appear in a London court later the same Monday to address the charges. The police have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing.
