Ontario Provincial Police are currently looking into the theft of an antique cross that originates from the late 1800s. The authorities suspect that the cross went missing sometime between November 6 and 8. The historic item was snatched from its display outside the Tecumseh Historical Museum on Tecumseh Road. This cross is the original one from the nearby Ste. Anne’s Church, with a rich history dating back to 1891.
OPP Constable Steven Duguay mentioned that there was noticeable damage to the concrete base of the cross, indicating that it was forcibly removed by unknown individuals. The authorities are actively seeking information on the cross’s whereabouts and any details that could help in the investigation. Duguay expressed concern that the cross might have been targeted for its scrap metal potential, emphasizing the importance of preserving such significant historical artifacts.
Law enforcement is urging anyone who might have valuable information about the theft to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
