In a recent development, court documents filed on Tuesday reveal that the four individuals implicated in a probe involving explosives and firearms manufacturing in London, Ontario, now confront 19 additional charges. The accused individuals – Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji – were initially charged in January and are all either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the male individuals having backgrounds in the engineering department.
The updated list of charges submitted to the Ontario Court of Justice raises the total number of charges to 31, encompassing various joint counts against all four individuals and specific charges related to each accused person. The fresh charges include accusations of possessing five distinct explosive substances, possession of stolen property, and accessing computer data linked to firearm production.
The investigation, which commenced on January 24 following an overnight trespassing incident at Western University, led to the arrest of two individuals who had entered an engineering building. Subsequent inquiries led the authorities to a residence in the University Heights neighborhood, where the remaining three suspects were apprehended.
Law enforcement officials conducted an extensive search of the residence at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, as well as two other properties in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec. Initially facing firearms-related charges, including handgun manufacturing and possession of a loaded restricted handgun, the four individuals now confront additional charges, such as possessing firearm accessories and another prohibited firearm.
Furthermore, Tong, Wang, and Ji have been implicated in incidents in other cities, with Tong facing various charges, including storing rifles in Orléans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle in an unauthorized location in Quebec. Tong’s possession of firearms charges also involve discrepancies with his firearms license specifications.
Additionally, Wang now faces charges related to weapon manufacturing between September 2025 and January 2026, along with charges of breaking into a Western building in October 2025, jointly with Tong. The accused individuals are also charged with possessing explosive substances, notably pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide.
Moreover, Wang is individually charged with accessing computer data related to firearms, specifically design files usable with 3D printers or metal milling machines for manufacturing purposes. The number of charges each accused individual faces are as follows: Tong – 28, Wang – 20, Han – 11, and Ji – 13.
The legal proceedings are ongoing, with two individuals out on bail and two remaining in custody. Tong, who did not seek bail, is in custody, while Han was denied bail and remanded in February. Wang was granted bail in March under strict conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and supervision by two sureties, each posting $200,000. Ji is also out on bail without any sureties.
