Over the weekend in Charlottetown, Leena Daboo joined around 60 individuals to discuss combatting discrimination against the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Daboo, known for her assertiveness, learned a valuable lesson at the gathering: approaching such situations with love is more effective. Leading with love was emphasized by Fae Johnstone, the executive director of the Society of Queer Momentum, an organization dedicated to addressing 2SLGBTQ+ hate.

Johnstone highlighted the importance of empathy and understanding in bridging gaps with those who may not comprehend or accept the community. Jay Alexander, a trans woman for five years, shared the challenges of facing discrimination, particularly for individuals who are newly out. Despite developing a thicker skin over time, Alexander stressed the significance of avoiding confrontation and instead offering warmth and compassion to those who may not understand.

Henry Luyombya, a social worker at PEERS Alliance, emphasized the need for meaningful conversations and listening when addressing hate. Encouraging dialogue and connection based on shared values were seen as crucial steps towards creating a more inclusive society for everyone.
