A grower from Ontario, Jeff Warner, took his 1,711-pound pumpkin to the Port Elgin Pumpkinfest aiming for a top prize but was disqualified due to a small soft spot on the pumpkin. Despite knowing the strict rules, Warner decided to participate in the competition, making a nine-hour journey with his giant pumpkin. He attempted to salvage the pumpkin by scraping the soft spot but the hole continued to expand during the trip. Upon arrival at the festival, a judge determined that the hole exceeded the allowable size, leading to Warner’s disqualification. The winning pumpkin weighed 1,542 pounds, lighter than Warner’s entry. Despite the setback, Warner remains proud of his efforts in growing the giant pumpkin and plans to feed it to polar bears in a polar habitat. The giant pumpkin continues to attract attention from visitors who stop by to take photos with it.
