A man aged 32 lost his life in Kitchener following a shooting incident on Monday night. Authorities revealed that the victim, a Kitchener resident, was discovered with multiple gunshot injuries in the vicinity of Century Hill Drive and Country Hill Drive after law enforcement responded to the residential area at approximately 10 p.m. on Monday.
Police spokesperson Cons. Melissa Quarrie informed the media on Tuesday morning that efforts are ongoing to identify suspects and gather any additional relevant information. Quarrie later confirmed that the victim had been shot while in a vehicle, emphasizing that the major crimes unit believes this was a targeted attack possibly linked to organized crime activities in the area.
Police are set to remain in the area on Tuesday to conduct forensic examinations and probe the incident further. They plan to canvass the neighborhood to interview potential witnesses and collect any available video surveillance or dash-cam footage. Consequently, Century Hill Drive is anticipated to remain closed between Old Country Drive and Bleams Road throughout the day as part of the investigative process.
At the scene on Tuesday morning, a police cruiser was stationed in the vicinity, with yellow police tape cordoning off access to Century Hill Drive. Additionally, multiple police cruisers and an armored vehicle were stationed at the entrance where Century Hill Drive meets Bleams Road.
Resident Shaundra Gardiner, a resident of the complex building across from the intersection of Century Hill Drive and Country Hill Drive since 2019, expressed concerns about safety in the area. She recounted witnessing a vehicle collision with a tree on Century Drive on the night of the incident, noting the heavy police presence at the scene.
Gardiner voiced her unease about the escalating violence in the neighborhood, emphasizing the need for improved security measures such as additional on-site cameras and allowing residents to install their own security systems. She highlighted the community’s efforts to enhance safety by staying connected and discussing strategies to protect themselves.
