Canadian figure skater Stephen Gogolev clinched his first Grand Prix medal at the 2025 Finlandia Trophy in Helsinki. However, Roman Sadovsky showed his determination to compete for Canada’s spot in the men’s figure skating team at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Gogolev, hailing from Toronto, secured third place in the men’s competition, while ice dancers Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier added to Canada’s success with a silver medal and a qualification for the upcoming Grand Prix Final in December.

Despite entering the men’s free skate in second position after a flawless short program, Gogolev finished third in the free skate with a score of 164.26, trailing just .22 points behind Adam Siao Him Fa of France.

Sadovsky, who initially stood at sixth place after the short program, showcased a strong performance in the free skate, finishing fourth overall with 243.29 points, 10.32 points behind Gogolev.

Japanese skater Yuma Kagiyama dominated the competition, securing first place with 270.45 total points, followed by Siao Him Fa and Gogolev.
