Actor Hannah Einbinder has taken to social media to redirect the focus to the situation in Gaza rather than her recent arrest at a protest outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN speech. On her Instagram story, Einbinder emphasized the ongoing conflict in Palestine and Southern Lebanon, criticizing the U.S. for its support of Israel.
During Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly, more than 100 protesters, including Einbinder and actress Susan Sarandon, were detained by police in New York City. Images captured Sarandon and Einbinder in handcuffs, with Sarandon wearing a shirt advocating for funding people over bombs. The protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, aimed to raise awareness about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The rally outside the UN saw hundreds of demonstrators demanding an end to the conflict and calling for a halt in U.S. military aid to Israel. Jewish Voice for Peace reported over 100 arrests during the protest, denouncing the support given to what they described as a genocidal war.
Despite accusations of genocide by Amnesty International and a UN inquiry, Netanyahu denied these claims in his speech, asserting that Israel’s actions were defensive measures against Hamas. The ongoing conflict has raised concerns about humanitarian aid access in Gaza, with allegations of aid restrictions by Israel as a pressure tactic during negotiations.
Critics have condemned the U.S.’s continued backing of Israel, exemplified by a planned $2.8 billion munitions sale to Israel. The international community’s growing disapproval of Israel’s policies, including discussions of Palestinian displacement, has sparked debates on ethics and international law.
As the world watches the escalating tensions, voices like Einbinder’s resonate in calling for an end to the conflict and a reevaluation of the support extended to Israel by global powers.
