A woman facing charges related to a fatal hit-and-run near Fredericton had her court appearance rescheduled, delayed by three weeks. Vanessa Ricketson, aged 27, is accused in the death of a 19-year-old man from Norton who was changing a tire on the side of the Trans-Canada Highway near Oromocto when he was struck. Ricketson, represented by defense lawyer Shane Hill on behalf of Emily Cochrane, was not present in court as scheduled for trial election. The defense requested an adjournment for evidence disclosure, leading to a new court date set for September 1 by Judge Lyne Raymond. The victim, who remains unidentified by the police, had taken safety measures by pulling off the highway, wearing reflective gear, and activating the vehicle’s hazard lights. The RCMP did not confirm whether Ricketson was the person of interest linked to the case shortly after the incident on March 19. Ricketson was charged about four months after the occurrence and is currently not in police custody.
