Must read

Police have rushed to a seaside town after a body was discovered in the centre.

Merseyside Police were called to Southport following a report of a sudden death at around 11am on Friday, April 18. A body was discovered in the town’s gardens.

Officers have cordoned off the scene and said enquiries are ongoing.

The force added that officers remain at the scene “while the relevant people are contacted”, the force incident manager added.

One police vehicle was pictured inside the gardens, which is in the town centre, and a cordon surrounded a large part of the pathway close to the Southport War Memorial.

Green tarpaulin could also be seen surrounding a bench and officers could be seen gathering evidence.

The Mirror has contacted Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service following reports that they were also at the scene.
