UK’s cheapest chocolate bunnies compared to Lindt at major supermarkets

Must read

A Lindt chocolate Easter bunny is almost something of a trademark at this time of year. Their golden foil lines supermarket shelves, and the creamy taste is distinctively iconic.

While these cute, chocolate delights crop up every year, many supermarket giants have made their own knock-off versions, which are much more affordable if you have several people to buy for. But do they pip Lindt in terms of taste and texture? According to consumer experts, Which?, the Lindt bunny still comes out on top – but there are some good contenders out there.

A group of 103 chocolate lovers tasted a range of chocolate brands, including the Lindt bunny, to cheaper alternatives from Aldi and M&S.

Lindt took the first place as the best chocolate with a total of 77% satisfaction. However, Marks and Spencer and Aldi also came very close, with 76% and 72%, respectively. The chocolates were blind-tasted and rated based on the flavour (50%), texture (20%), appearance (15%) and aroma (10%).

In the second place, M&S Baby Bunny Swiss milk chocolate was described as having a good taste of chocolate, while some described it to be sweet and creamy. Over a quarter also claimed it would be their go-to Easter treat. The good thing about it is that it’s cheaper than Lindt, costing £3 per 100g.

For a far more cost-effective option, Aldi comes into play. Although it had a lower score compared to Lindt and M&S, with tasters saying it wasn’t creamy enough, it ranked highly on its appearance. It’s also the cheapest product out of the three, costing £1.99 per 100g.

Shoppers can find Lindt’s Gold Bunny Milk Chocolate for £4.25 for 100g in any UK supermarket. Lindt chocolate bunnies are available in different sizes, including 50g, 100g and 200g. Shoppers can also purchase miniature multipacks, which are perfect to include in any Easter hamper basket, or as a small treat.

Other popular chocolate brands, which didn’t participate in the survey, include Tesco ’s Easter Milk Chocolate Bunny for £1.50 per 100g, Morrisons ’s Milk Chocolate Hollow Sitting Bunny for £2 per 100g, and Asda’s Milk Chocolate Sitting Bunny for £2.24 per 100g.

As Easter approaches, the hunt for the perfect chocolate treat is on, with Lindt being an all-time favourite. Whether you’re after a premium chocolate bunny or a cost-effective one, this year’s Easter line-up proves that chocolate can be delicious without the need to break the bank.
