Canada’s Marco Arop clinched the fourth spot on Friday at the Diamond League event held in Lausanne, Switzerland, at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Arop started strong, leading the pack into the final lap but couldn’t sustain the pace, finishing fourth with a time of 1:43.18.

The race was won by Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi in 1:42.19, followed closely by Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati, who achieved a season-best time of 1:42.31. American Brandon Miller secured the third position with a time of 1:42.55.

In the previous year, Arop and shot putter Sarah Mitton were the only two Canadians to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich, both finishing third. Arop, currently ranked second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings behind Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, is in a favorable position to secure a spot in the upcoming 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final scheduled for September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.

In the men’s 200m event, reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo from Botswana triumphed with a time of 19.87 seconds. South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile claimed second place in 19.98 seconds, followed by Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba in third with a time of 20.14 seconds.

On the women’s side, American Kayla White emerged victorious in the 200m race, crossing the finish line in 22.18 seconds. Great Britain’s Amy Hunt narrowly secured second place over Nigeria’s Favour Ofili in a photo finish, both clocking in at 22.32 seconds. Unfortunately, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, a two-time women’s world champion, sustained an injury and had to be escorted off the track in a wheelchair after pulling up during the race.
