The labor union representing flight attendants at WestJet has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement made with the airline based in Calgary following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has outlined that the agreement entails an increase in wages exceeding 18% over a three-year period, alongside the introduction of a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground duties. Additionally, improvements include extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.

During the extended holiday weekend, WestJet flights throughout much of Canada were suspended as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, commencing their walkout early on Sunday. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the air carrier and the union in the early hours of Monday, leading to a gradual resumption of normal operations by WestJet.

The next step involves cabin crew members voting on the proposed deal in the upcoming weeks.
