Beginning at the Pender Harbour Health Centre at the end of August, he will be offering care to approximately 1,000 residents in the secluded coastal community.
The move to Canada holds particular appeal for Bay due to the opportunity to concentrate on patient care in a system that he finds less restrictive than the U.S. health system. Recent changes in British Columbia have facilitated the licensure process for U.S.-trained doctors, making the transition more feasible for professionals like Bay.
Joining Dr. Bay at the Pender Harbour Health Centre is Dr. Derek Williams, another American physician who recently made the move from Montana. This addition, along with recent renovations and increased community support, marks a significant improvement in healthcare access for the residents of the Sunshine Coast.
The influx of American healthcare professionals to British Columbia, including more than 580 individuals as of March 2026, has been a strategic effort by the Ministry of Health to address physician shortages in the region.
