Tyler McGregor netted three goals to lead Canada to a 7-0 victory over China in the opening match of the 2025 Para Cup held in Dawson Creek, B.C. Liam Hickey contributed two goals, one of which was while Canada was shorthanded, with additional goals coming from Dominic Cozzolino and Micah Kovacevich.
Expressing satisfaction with the team’s performance, McGregor praised the strong start and physical play that allowed them to take an early lead. He highlighted the significance of scoring two shorthanded goals in the first period and commended the team for maintaining their momentum throughout the game.
Corbin Watson, in goal for Canada, made nine crucial saves to earn a shutout at the Ovintiv Events Centre. Watson’s milestone achievement was noted as he became the first goalie to reach 100 games played for Canada’s national Para hockey team, a feat he described as a significant personal accomplishment.
In another match on Sunday, the United States secured a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic in the four-team tournament. Canada is scheduled to face the Czech Republic next on Monday at 1 p.m. ET.
