The Windsor Police Service has pressed charges against a correctional officer for allegedly sexually assaulting an inmate at a local detention center. The authorities were informed earlier this month about purported incidents that took place between May and November of the current year while the officer was overseeing female inmates. Christopher Rylett, aged 47, faces charges of sexual assault and breach of public trust.

In order to protect the victim’s identity and maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation, the police have refrained from disclosing further details at this time. Windsor police investigators suspect there could be additional victims who have not yet come forward, and they are encouraging anyone who believes they may have been sexually assaulted or victimized to reach out to them.

The police clarified that sexual assault encompasses any non-consensual sexual touching that violates an individual’s sexual integrity, ranging from unwanted sexual contact to assault involving penetration. Patricia Brown, a criminal defense attorney in Windsor unrelated to the case, emphasized the significance of the presumption of innocence. However, she expressed deep concern if the allegations are proven true.

Brown highlighted the vulnerability of inmates while incarcerated, citing the power guards wield over them and their lack of recourse if subjected to abuse. While not privy to the specifics of the accusations, she underscored the gravity of the situation and its implications for the safety of accused individuals during detention.
