The Toronto Blue Jays have made a historic move by signing right-hander Dylan Cease to a record-breaking seven-year contract worth $210 million US. Cease, who previously played for the Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres, will be a valuable addition to the Blue Jays’ impressive pitching rotation. The deal includes deferred payments totaling $64 million, with Cease receiving a $23 million signing bonus and escalating annual salaries reaching up to $30 million in 2027.

Cease’s contract also includes provisions for deferred payments starting from 2033 until 2046. The pitcher, known for his consistent performance and high strikeout numbers, brings a wealth of experience to the Blue Jays, who are aiming to strengthen their pitching staff for the upcoming season. This signing marks a significant investment for the Blue Jays, surpassing previous high-profile contracts in the team’s history.

In addition to Cease, the Blue Jays are reportedly finalizing a three-year, $30 million deal with right-hander Cody Ponce, who recently excelled in the Korea Baseball Organization. Ponce’s impressive track record and MVP accolades make him a promising addition to the team’s pitching options as they gear up for the next season. The Blue Jays’ aggressive moves in the free-agent market demonstrate their commitment to building a competitive roster for the future.
