The 2027 Memorial Cup has been awarded to the Guelph Storm by the Canadian Hockey League, coinciding with the city’s bicentennial celebration. The decision was announced recently, with the CHL praising Guelph’s strong bid and highlighting the team’s organizational prowess and community spirit. Guelph edged out the Kitchener Rangers to secure the hosting rights after a thorough evaluation process by a panel with extensive sports experience.

Expressing his delight, Scott Walker, Guelph Storm partner and president of hockey operations, described the selection as a significant honor. He emphasized the symbolic value of hosting the prestigious junior hockey event during Guelph’s bicentennial year, aiming to showcase the team’s dedicated fans and the city’s tradition of excellence.

Guelph Mayor Cam Guthrie also shared his excitement, stating that the city is prepared to make the 2027 Memorial Cup a focal point of its bicentennial festivities. The tournament is scheduled for the spring of 2027, with specific dates to be disclosed closer to the event.
