Glee star Ali Stroker has candidly opened up about suffering a miscarriage at the beginning of the year. The 37-year-old American played a character named Betty Pillsbury in the Ryan Murphy created musical teen drama.
Ali landed the part after being a runner up in season two of the reality competition The Glee Project – which served as an audition ground for members of the public to land parts in the hugely successful Fox TV show. After breaking into the TV world, she went on to appear in other shows including Charmed, And Just Like That… and Only Murders in the Building.
Away from the screen, Ali is married to theater director and actor David Perlow and they welcomed a son named Jesse in November 2022. Ali has now revealed that she has been hoping to grow her family – but she and David were left devastated when their family plans suffered a setback at the beginning of the year.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the singer and actress shared a selfie while opening up about her heartbreaking experience. She wrote: “It’s been a tough season. I honestly have wanted to hide and not share anything about my life. But these are the moments that I need to practice what I preach and have the courage to be vulnerable.”
Going into detail, Ali continued: “This past January I had a miscarriage that surprised me and knocked me off my feet. Then a month later I lost a job that meant so much to me. I had thought I knew what the future would hold and in 30 days was brought to my knees with grief and confusion.”
Ali went on to reveal she is planning to immerse herself in a positive experience as she continues to process her difficulties. She wrote: “I’m taking the next 30 days to do a self care project/promise/experiment!
“I’m curious as to what will happen and where this next season will take me. Right now, I’m CHOOSING (because damn I definitely don’t want) to put myself out there in a scary time. I don’t know what’s next and I want to say HERE I AM.”
She concluded by saying she was going to listen to a song that she knows her young son loves, and added: “It’s so easy to love him for all of who he is and the stages he’s in. I want to do the same for myself. So here we go!”
Ali was sent messages of support from her followers and friends, including Aylin Bayramoglu who was a fellow runner up during their season of The Glee Project. Aylin wrote: “Thank you for sharing your vulnerability with us. I love you always and forever. I’m always rooting for you.”
She was supported by Glee star Jenna Ushkowitz, who played Tina Cohen-Chang, who wrote: “Love you, sending lots of love and healing growing energy your way. You are such a light.”
While The White Lotus star Michelle Monaghan wrote: “I love you darling one. Wishing you so much comfort and love right now.”
Ali and David welcomed their son in November 2022. Taking to social media at the time to share the happy news, Alie wrote: “World meet Jesse Kenneth Perlow!
“Born 11/8 healthy and so happy to be here! Life will never be the same. We are so lucky that you are our boy!”
