Man’s ‘life changing’ jacket potato trick cooks them in 10 minutes with no oven

Must read

Imagine sinking your teeth into a perfectly cooked, fluffy jacket potato, slathered in butter and your favourite toppings – all in just 10 minutes. Home cook Josh Elkin has amazed his fans on TikTok with his quick and easy method for cooking the humble spud.

One of the main reasons people shy away from baking potatoes is the lengthy cooking time. But Josh’s 10-minute technique has proved that microwaving is the way to go, yielding a fluffy interior and a crispy skin, ready to be loaded with your favourite fixings. To begin, Josh gives the potato a good wash before piercing it all over with a fork.

Next, he pops it in the microwave for five minutes on each side. After removing it from the microwave, he slices off the top, revealing the fluffy goodness inside.

But that’s not all – Josh also shares his top tip for evenly distributing the butter throughout the potato. By making diagonal cuts into the spud, then turning it on its side and making more cuts in the opposite direction, he creates a criss-cross pattern that allows the butter to melt into every nook and crann.

Fans were blown away by the method, with many hailing it as a “game changer”. One commented: “I love it. Total game changer,” while another exclaimed: “OMG!!! I love it.”

A third exclaimed: “The slicing technique is life changing,” while another recommended: “I actually tried it.. it’s so GOOD. I recommend 6 minutes though..to be even softer.”

Potatoes are a staple that can last quite some time in your cupboard, but what’s the ideal way to store them? A woman sparked a massive debate when she pointed out a “strange symbol” on her potato packet and questioned the proper storage method.

TikToker @bethking61 always assumed the spuds belonged in a cupboard, but was surprised to find instructions on the packet suggesting they should be kept in the fridge instead. She zoomed in on the corner of her bag of white potatoes, showing a fridge symbol with the words: “At home store below 5°C.”

Convinced that potatoes should be stashed away in a cupboard, she was thrown for a loop by this revelation, and it turns out she wasn’t the only one puzzled. “Surely no?” she posted in her video unveiling her find.

She also asked her followers: “Does anyone else keep their potatoes in the fridge? Is this NEW? Is my whole life a lie..”

Her caption further expressed her surprise: “Maybe i have been living under a rock but i always thought they belonged in a dark cupboard.”

Alas, there was no consensus; some commenters staunchly defended team cupboard, while others confessed they’ve switched allegiance to team fridge.
