A14 crash: One killed with lorry driver arrested as dual carriageway forced to close

A lorry driver has been arrested after a motorist died in a horror crash last night which left several others injured as police begin investigations into the tragedy.

Emergency services, including police, fire and paramedics, were called at about 9.25pm on Tuesday following reports of a collision involving several cars on the eastbound carriageway of the A14 near Horningsea in Cambridgeshire. One person travelling in a car was killed in the horror accident after sustaining fatal injuries. Three other people in the same car suffered serious injuries and police are calling on any potential witnesses to come forward with dash cam footage.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed the driver of a lorry was arrested and remains in custody. A spokesman said in a statement: “Emergency services are at the scene of a fatal collision in Horningsea.

“Police, fire and the ambulance service were called at about 9.25pm yesterday (22 April) with reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles on the eastbound carriageway of the A14.

“One person in a car has sustained fatal injuries. Three other people in the same car suffered serious injuries.

“The driver of a lorry, a 38-year-old man from Cambridge, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

“The road is currently closed eastbound between Junction 34 and 35 and likely to remain closed for some time. Diversions are in place.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw the vehicles in the moments leading up to the incident. They would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time with dash cam footage.
