The Toronto Blue Jays’ standout player, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., has been cleared to return to the lineup after spending time on the seven-day injured list. Guerrero is set to play against the New York Yankees this Saturday.
Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week in Toronto following a collision with rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. at third base during the sixth inning. Despite the impact that dislodged his helmet, Guerrero managed to score a crucial run before leaving the game.
After passing his final concussion tests, Guerrero rejoined the team on Friday, participating in batting practice after a successful minor league rehabilitation game with single-A Dunedin on Thursday. His return comes as a boost for the Blue Jays, who suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Yankees in the series opener on Friday.
In preparation for Guerrero’s return, the Blue Jays made a corresponding roster move by sending infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo. Guerrero, a six-time all-star, boasts a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Prior to his injury, he had been on a hot streak, hitting .310 in his last seven games.
