Vancouver has been selected to host Canada’s initial-round match against Brazil in the Davis Cup Qualifiers, as confirmed by Tennis Canada on Thursday. The competition will be held on February 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre situated on the University of British Columbia campus.
The victorious team will progress to the subsequent round of qualification for the global men’s tournament scheduled for September 2026. Ranked ninth, Canada will face off against the 18th-ranked Brazil, with Canada having secured victories in 10 of their last 12 home ties. The two nations last crossed paths in 2007 during the Group I Americas stage, where Brazil emerged victorious with a 3-1 score.
Canada has a successful history in Vancouver, having won their last three Davis Cup matches there, including notable triumphs against Spain and Italy en route to the 2013 semifinals, and a 3-2 victory over Japan in 2015.
Following a 4-0 win over Israel in World Group I play last September, Canada qualified for the 2026 tournament. The match in Halifax took place without spectators due to protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
Canada claimed its sole Davis Cup championship in 2022 by defeating Australia in the final. Subsequently, they were relegated to the qualifying round after a 2-0 loss to Germany in the 2024 quarterfinals, and further demoted to the World Group 1 level following a 3-2 defeat against Hungary in the first round of 2025 qualifying.
