Two individuals have been apprehended following a shooting incident that caused damage to a residence in Surrey, British Columbia, as confirmed by authorities. Surrey Police Service (SPS) representative Sgt. Tige Pollock stated that the occurrence seems to be connected to ongoing extortion probes. Pollock noted that this marks the 39th shooting related to extortion in Surrey this year. Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday at a home near the intersection of 56 Avenue and King George Boulevard.
The dwelling showed signs of damage from gunshots, according to Pollock. He mentioned that the officers’ rapid response enabled them to identify a vehicle with two suspects. The suspects are currently in custody, but no charges have been filed yet. Although several individuals were present in the residence during the shooting, no injuries were reported. The B.C. Extortion Task Force has taken charge of the investigation. The police have urged anyone who possesses information or video recordings of the incident to reach out to the SPS.
Earlier this year, the province initiated a public awareness campaign prompting individuals to report extortion attempts, citing an increase in threats against the South Asian community in British Columbia. In September, the province introduced an RCMP-led task force aimed at addressing extortion and shootings in the region.
