An American woman completed a challenging 5,700-kilometer hike across the U.S. and Canada in five months, receiving unexpected assistance from a group of snowmobilers in British Columbia at the end of her journey. Jessica Guo extensively documented her trek along the Continental Divide Trail in the western U.S. and the Great Divide Trail in the Canadian Rockies over a span of more than 150 days from April to September. Initially sharing her adventure with close contacts, Guo later began sharing her experiences on social media and in a newsletter, attracting a large following.

Guo claims to be the first woman to complete both trails simultaneously and is the fourth documented person to achieve this feat. Expressing gratitude for the impact her journey had on others, she highlighted the inspiring messages she received from people who were motivated to explore the outdoors after following her adventures.

The conclusion of Guo’s remarkable expedition led her to Kakwa Provincial Park in British Columbia, where she intended to meet her parents after 152 days on the trail. Along the way, she encountered members of the Kakwa Park Snowmobile Club, including Greg Redmond and his friends, who have been enjoying outdoor recreation in the area since the 1980s.

Seeking assistance for the final leg of her journey, Guo approached the group’s cabin but was offered more than just a ride. Concerned for her safety hiking in the dark, the snowmobilers invited her to stay the night and shared a meal with her. While bonding over stories of their mountain adventures, they decided to help her reach the trailhead the next day to reunite with her parents.

Despite their initial unfamiliarity with Guo’s extensive hike, the men welcomed her warmly and shared their own tales of exploring the wilderness for decades. Reflecting on the camaraderie forged during her stay with the group, Guo emphasized the shared love for the outdoors that connected them, despite their different modes of enjoying nature.

The heartwarming encounter between Guo and the snowmobilers not only provided her with a safe conclusion to her journey but also showcased the power of mutual respect and appreciation for nature among outdoor enthusiasts.
