A California court has upheld rapper Tory Lanez’s guilty verdict for shooting at Megan Thee Stallion, dismissing his appeal. The 32-year-old Canadian was convicted in December 2022 on three felony counts, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of an unregistered loaded firearm in a vehicle, and firing a gun with gross negligence.
During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence in July 2020. She had to undergo surgery to remove bullet fragments from both feet. It was only months later that she publicly identified Lanez as the shooter.
Lanez, also known as Daystar Peterson, may seek to appeal to the California Supreme Court following the recent court ruling. He is currently serving a 10-year sentence at the California Men’s Colony near San Luis Obispo after being transferred due to a stabbing incident at another correctional facility.
Lanez, who began his music career in 2009 with mixtapes before achieving success with major label albums that reached the top 10 on Billboard’s charts, has not yet commented on the court’s decision. Megan Thee Stallion’s representatives have also not provided immediate feedback on the matter.
