Jake Reiner has been experiencing a strange time warp since December 14, 2025, where time seems to drag on endlessly yet also pass by in a blur. Speaking to KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles in his first interview since the tragic incident, Jake expressed how the past eight months have felt like an eternity while also fleeting like mere minutes. His parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered fatally stabbed in their Los Angeles residence on that fateful Sunday afternoon. Subsequently, their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was apprehended and later charged with their murder.

Jake shared that every day he wakes up, he is confronted with the harsh reality of his situation, living through the heartache continuously. In his recent interview released on Thursday, he recounted receiving a distressing call from his younger sister, Romy, who made the grim discovery of their parents.

Nick Reiner was officially indicted on July 20 on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his renowned father, Rob Reiner, a prominent Hollywood figure, and his mother, Michele, a talented photographer and producer. Despite pleading not guilty, the LA County grand jury, in an indictment unsealed on August 12, alleged that Nick, who had a history of mental health issues and addiction battles, had planned the attack on his parents.

Back in 2016, Rob and Nick Reiner collaborated on a film titled “Being Charlie,” inspired by Nick’s own struggles with addiction. The movie depicted the story of a rebellious teenage son of a politician who battles drug addiction. Rob had expressed that the film was deeply personal to him and had brought him closer to his son during its production.

During the recent interview, Jake reiterated his sentiments about feeling like he had lost half of his family, including Nick, due to the tragic events. He grappled with complex emotions towards his brother, expressing his inability to comprehend why the tragedy unfolded and the overwhelming anger and sense of injustice he now carries.
