Susanna Tapani’s late goal secured a 3-1 victory for the Boston Fleet over the Toronto Sceptres in Professional Women’s Hockey League action. Abby Newhook and Alina Mueller also found the net for Boston, with Aerin Frankel making 24 saves. Blayre Turnbull scored the lone goal for Toronto, with Raygan Kirk stopping 10 shots.

The game started with Turnbull scoring a short-handed goal for Toronto in the opening period, but Newhook equalized for Boston in the second period. Tapani’s decisive goal came in the third period after a battle behind the net.

Despite Toronto’s dominance in possession, they struggled to convert their chances, with Boston’s defense holding firm. The Sceptres’ power play, which excelled last season, went 0-for-6 in this game.

Toronto was missing key player Daryl Watts due to injury. The Sceptres had previously defeated the Frost in their season opener but failed to replicate that success against Boston.

The Fleet’s offensive output was limited, with just two shots on goal in the first period. However, they made improvements compared to their previous game against Minnesota.

In another match, the Vancouver Goldeneyes suffered a 5-1 defeat to the New York Sirens. The visitors showcased a balanced attack, with five different players scoring goals. Vancouver’s lone goal came from Sophie Jaques in the third period.

New York’s early lead set the tone for the game, with rookie Nicole Vallario scoring within the first four minutes. The Sirens extended their lead with goals from Sarah Fillier, Paetyn Levis, and Kristin O’Neill.

Both Boston and New York will face new opponents in their upcoming games, with Vancouver playing Boston and New York taking on Seattle.
