Three suicide bombers carried out an attack on the headquarters of a Pakistani paramilitary force on Monday, resulting in the death of three personnel and injuring at least five individuals, as confirmed by authorities. The assailants initiated the attack by opening fire as they forcibly entered the Federal Constabulary headquarters in Peshawar city before detonating themselves within the complex, according to police reports.
Deputy Commandant Javed Iqbal stated that three paramilitary personnel lost their lives in the assault. An undisclosed senior official revealed to Reuters that the initial suicide bomber targeted the main entrance, allowing the other attackers to breach the compound. Security forces, including the army and police, have sealed off the vicinity and are managing the situation cautiously due to suspicions of additional terrorists inside the headquarters.
Situated in a densely populated part of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the force’s headquarters has been barricaded by a joint effort of the army, police, and security personnel, restricting traffic flow in the area, as reported by local resident Safdar Khan to Reuters.
The wounded individuals, which include two paramilitary personnel, were promptly transported to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment, as confirmed by hospital spokesperson Mohammad Asim. Notably, no extremist group has claimed responsibility for the attack at this time.
In the wake of recent deadly border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Islamist militants in the region have escalated their attacks, with no group yet claiming responsibility for this specific incident. Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of sheltering these militants responsible for cross-border assaults, a claim that Kabul vehemently denies.
