Environment Canada has issued a snow squall watch for Waterloo region, Guelph, and Wellington County, anticipating snowfall of 30 to 50 centimeters. The snow squalls are predicted to commence on Thursday morning and could persist through the weekend, potentially causing near-zero visibility.
Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder from Environment Canada emphasized the importance of taking extra precautions when traveling in these conditions, advising maintaining safe distances and allowing for additional travel time. The weather agency highlighted the likelihood of hazardous travel conditions, potential road closures, and impassable routes.
In addition to the snow squall watch, a special weather statement has been issued for gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h in the same regions. The statement forecasts a shift from southwest winds to west on Wednesday night, followed by a northwest direction on Thursday afternoon or evening. Environment Canada cautioned that these strong winds could displace loose objects and lead to localized power outages, with conditions expected to improve by Friday.
