The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into a collision between a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario, that occurred on Friday. The incident took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road around 7:30 p.m., involving a Durham Regional Police Service officer who was en route to an emergency call.
According to Monica Hudon, the SIU spokesperson, the civilian vehicle occupants were taken to the hospital, with a child sustaining a severe injury. Durham police confirmed that their officers were responding to a call when the collision happened, prompting the involvement of the SIU as per their protocol, as stated by Const. Nick Gluckstein.
Following the incident, Kingston Road was shut down at Brock Road in both directions, with southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue also being restricted for the collision investigation, as communicated by Durham police on social media. By early Saturday morning, the roadways had been reopened for traffic.
