A prominent criminal defense lawyer in the Greater Toronto Area, Deepak Paradkar, known for handling significant cases in southern Ontario, has been implicated in a large-scale cocaine smuggling operation. He is among seven Canadians arrested in connection with alleged criminal activities led by Ryan Wedding and the killing of an FBI witness.

Paradkar was apprehended by the RCMP following some resistance and is now facing extradition to the United States for charges detailed in a U.S. federal indictment unveiled recently. The indictment refers to Paradkar as the “cocaine_lawyer,” citing his involvement in advising Wedding and his associate, Andrew Clark, on eliminating an FBI witness to evade extradition from Mexico.

Wedding, a former Canadian Olympian, is a top fugitive on the FBI’s list, accused of offering a substantial bounty for the murder of the FBI witness in Colombia earlier this year. Paradkar allegedly provided legal advice and facilitated access to individuals connected to the criminal enterprise.

The arrested individuals, including Paradkar, are accused of various crimes such as conspiracy to commit murder and drug trafficking. RCMP Commissioner Michael Duheme mentioned uncertainties regarding the extradition timeline due to ongoing court proceedings.

Despite Paradkar’s extensive legal career and public presence, questions have arisen following his arrest in light of his past social media activities and legal controversies. The Law Society of Ontario has indicated that it will conduct its investigation if a lawyer faces serious criminal charges, emphasizing public safety and confidence in the legal system.

Legal experts stress the importance of upholding the presumption of innocence and not rushing to judgment, highlighting the complexities of legal cases and the need for due process. The investigation into Paradkar’s involvement in the criminal activities linked to Ryan Wedding continues, with ongoing developments unfolding in the case.
