“Pest Issues Force Closure of Calgary Food Hall”

A popular food hall in Calgary has temporarily shut down as a result of pest issues flagged by Alberta Health Services (AHS). The closure, effective November 28, affects all vendors at First Street Market in Victoria Park. Following an investigation by AHS that uncovered pest activity, the decision to close was made. A spokesperson for First Street Market confirmed the situation, stating that the market had an evident cockroach infestation and unsanitary conditions during the inspection prompted by a complaint. Fortunately, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the food hall’s conditions so far. The closure will persist until AHS deems it safe to reopen, with rigorous sanitation measures being implemented. Notably, General manager Chris Gale of Actually Pretty Good, a pizza vendor at the food market, emphasized the importance of vigilance in a shared food market setting. First Street Market, which opened its doors in 2021, awaits clearance from AHS before resuming operations.
