Amanda Trebach, an ICU nurse, who has been advocating for her migrant patients’ safety from immigration raids, was unexpectedly met with force from U.S. law enforcement, despite being an American citizen. A video captured by fellow activists during a confrontation in August shows Trebach being pushed to the ground and detained by ICE agents. She expressed her concerns about the lack of identification and due process during the incident.

The altercation occurred when Trebach and members of the Harbor Area Peace Patrols were monitoring ICE activities in Los Angeles. They were documenting ICE agents leaving a staging site for raids on Terminal Island, known for its history of Japanese internment during World War II.

ICE agents forcibly arrested Trebach, accusing her of taking photos. She was later released without any charges filed. The incident was detailed by Union del Barrio, the parent organization of Harbor Area Peace Patrols.

Trebach’s case is not isolated, as ProPublica’s investigation revealed over 170 U.S. citizens have been detained by immigration enforcement. UCLA law professor Jonathan Zasloff criticized ICE’s actions, stating they have been operating with impunity despite violating citizens’ rights.

The Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement tactics have sparked controversy, with concerns over constitutional violations and excessive use of force. The presence of ICE agents in public spaces has instilled fear in migrant communities, deterring individuals from seeking essential services like medical care.

The situation escalated further with the removal of an app that tracked ICE agent locations and a Supreme Court ruling allowing “roving” immigration patrols. Critics argue these actions contribute to increased racial profiling and violate individual rights.

Despite ongoing protests and legal challenges, ICE operations persist, with thousands of deportations reported. The administration’s tough stance on immigration has drawn criticism and calls to halt such practices. The debate over immigration policies and enforcement continues amid concerns about civil liberties and human rights violations.
