A video captured by fellow activists during a confrontation in August shows Trebach being pushed to the ground and detained by ICE agents. The altercation occurred when Trebach and members of the Harbor Area Peace Patrols were monitoring ICE activities in Los Angeles. They were documenting ICE agents leaving a staging site for raids on Terminal Island, known for its history of Japanese internment during World War II.
ICE agents forcibly arrested Trebach, accusing her of taking photos. She was later released without any charges filed. The incident was detailed by Union del Barrio, the parent organization of Harbor Area Peace Patrols.
Trebach’s case is not isolated, as ProPublica’s investigation revealed over 170 U.S. citizens have been detained by immigration enforcement. UCLA law professor Jonathan Zasloff criticized ICE’s actions, stating they have been operating with impunity despite violating citizens’ rights.
