Kelly Pannek netted two goals and Nicole Hensley secured a shutout as the Minnesota Frost, the reigning champions, triumphed over the Seattle Torrent with a 3-0 victory in front of a record women’s hockey crowd. The game, which marked the first home match for the Torrent, attracted 16,014 fans, setting a new attendance record for a women’s hockey game in a U.S. arena.
Pannek opened the scoring late in the first period with a shot that eluded Torrent goalie Corinne Schroeder. She later found the net again in the third period, while Grace Zumwinkle added a power play goal to seal the win. Hensley’s remarkable performance included 30 saves for the Frost.
Schroeder, previously the league leader in shutouts with four for the New York Sirens last season, made 22 saves for the Torrent. Both teams had two power play opportunities during the game.
Looking ahead, Minnesota will face Ottawa on Tuesday, while Seattle will host New York on Wednesday in their upcoming matches.
