The New York Mets have acquired Marcus Semien, a Gold Glove second baseman, from the Texas Rangers in a trade deal that involves outfielder Brandon Nimmo and cash considerations. Nimmo, who spent 10 years with the Mets, agreed to waive his no-trade provision as part of the transaction. Under his current contract, Nimmo is set to receive annual salaries of $20.25 million through 2030, along with a $1 million bonus from the Mets for waiving the no-trade provision.

Semien, who previously played for the Toronto Blue Jays, has three seasons left on his contract with the Rangers, amounting to $72 million. The Rangers made significant moves in the 2021 season by signing Semien and World Series MVP shortstop Corey Seager to lucrative contracts, leading them to their first World Series title in 2023.

In addition to Semien, the Rangers also saw the departure of key players like Adolis Garcia, Jonah Heim, and Josh Sborz, who became free agents after the team did not offer them contracts for the 2026 season. Despite missing the final weeks of the season due to injury, Semien secured his second Gold Glove award this year, showcasing his defensive prowess and consistency on the field.

Over his career, Semien has played for multiple teams and has accumulated impressive stats, including a .253 batting average, 253 home runs, and 801 RBI. Nimmo, drafted by the Mets in 2011, has been a reliable leadoff hitter with a career on-base percentage of .364 and notable offensive contributions, such as hitting 25 home runs and 92 RBI in the most recent season.

Meanwhile, the Colorado Rockies have appointed Warren Schaeffer as their full-time manager following his interim role after the dismissal of Bud Black earlier in the season. Schaeffer, a long-time member of the Rockies organization, takes on the challenge of leading the team after a challenging season that saw them finish at the bottom of the NL West standings. Schaeffer’s promotion marks a new chapter for the Rockies under his leadership, as he aims to bring a fresh perspective and energy to the team.
