Macklemore’s newly announced tour aimed at supporting Palestinians has seen all three shows sell out rapidly. The tour, named the Free Palestine tour, was introduced by the Grammy winner just a week ago, featuring dates in Dublin, Paris, and London. While the artist has not disclosed the lineup for the shows yet, he mentioned on social media that details will be revealed soon.
This European tour was unveiled after Macklemore was removed as an opening act for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour leg. The rapper expressed his gratitude on Instagram for the overwhelming support received for the tour, emphasizing the importance of musicians standing in solidarity with Palestine and using their platform to raise funds for the cause.
The concerts will benefit various Palestinian aid organizations such as Gaza Soup Kitchen, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA. Despite inquiries about potential shows in Canada, no confirmation has been provided by Macklemore’s representatives.
Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian stance led to his dismissal from Sheeran’s tour, as venue owners in the U.S. threatened to cancel Sheeran’s performances if Macklemore continued as the opening act. Sheeran, addressing the situation at a show in Philadelphia, clarified that he did not intend to be an activist musician. The controversy surrounding the tour resulted in all other opening acts, including Sheeran’s backing band, withdrawing from the lineup. Ultimately, the shows at Gillette Stadium were canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
