Canadian footballer Jonathan David has been honored as the CONCACAF men’s player of the year for 2024-25. The 25-year-old forward, who plays for Juventus, clinched the award for his exceptional performances at both club and national team levels. David is the second Canadian to receive this accolade, following the footsteps of Alphonso Davies, who won it twice.

In addition to his recent achievement, David has previously been named the Canada Soccer player of the year in 2019 and 2024. He was also a nominee for the CONCACAF award in 2021, 2022, and 2023-24. On the women’s side, Melchie Dumornay from Haiti, who plays for OL Lyonnes in France, secured the CONCACAF women’s player of the year award for the second consecutive year.

The winners were selected for their performances from August 2024 to July 2025 through a voting process involving CONCACAF member association players, coaches, media, and fans. David holds the record as Canada’s all-time leading scorer in men’s football, with 37 goals in 67 matches.

CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani, also a FIFA vice-president from Canada, extended his congratulations to Jonathan David and Melchie Dumornay for their outstanding achievements during the past season.

Regarding his club performance, David excelled by scoring seven goals in the Champions League for Lille, setting a record as the highest-scoring CONCACAF player in a single tournament this century. He also became Lille’s top scorer in European competitions before making a transfer to Juventus in July. Although he has faced challenges finding the net for Juventus, with one goal and one assist in 13 games, his talent remains evident.

Apart from David and Dumornay, other notable nominees included players like Edson Alvarez, Raul Jimenez, Angel Sepulveda, Malik Tillman, and Manfred Ugalde on the men’s side. Dumornay joins the ranks of Alex Morgan as the second woman to win the CONCACAF award multiple times.

Furthermore, Dumornay was recognized for her exceptional performance in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where she was named the young player of the season for the second year in a row. She was also included in the competition’s Best XI for her impressive goal-scoring feats.

In a fan poll, Jimenez’s free kick goal against Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League Finals was voted as the goal of the year. The Fulham striker’s remarkable performance helped Mexico secure victories over Canada and Panama in the tournament. Fans also had the chance to vote on other nominated goals, including strikes by Christine Sinclair and Sebastian Berhalter.
