A personalized British Columbia license plate bearing the inscription “FIVE-0” is being recalled by ICBC after being in use for nearly a decade. Kamloops resident Jimmy Jay expressed surprise upon receiving a letter from ICBC, informing him of the recall due to vanity plates not being allowed to reference law enforcement, with “Five-0” commonly associated with police. Despite having sentimental value to Jay, as a former auxiliary police officer and fan of the TV series “Hawaii Five-0,” ICBC stated that the plate did not adhere to their guidelines when initially issued. The corporation is offering a replacement plate free of charge and suggested alternatives like “FORK 50,” though Jay indicated a preference for retaining his original plate or opting for a standard one if required to surrender it by the end of the month.
