Ice conditions posed a challenge for Rachel Homan at the Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials, but she managed to prevail on Friday. Homan’s Ottawa team narrowly secured a tense 5-4 win over Christina Black’s Halifax rink in the first game of the women’s final. Despite trailing by two points in the 10th end, Black only managed to score a single point, falling short of a potential multi-point end.
The second game of the final is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, with a possible third game on Sunday. In the men’s final, the Calgary team led by Brad Jacobs narrowly defeated Matt Dunstone’s Winnipeg team 9-8 on Friday night.
The teams faced challenging ice conditions at the venue, with frosty and inconsistent surfaces affecting gameplay. Homan’s team capitalized on Black’s errors to secure a narrow victory. Despite the difficulties, both teams displayed resilience and skill throughout the match.
Homan, a seasoned curler, is on the verge of securing a spot in her third consecutive Winter Olympics. Black’s team, comprised of skilled players, is competing in a Trials final for the first time. The winning teams at the Trials will represent Canada at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Games in February.
