A Toronto man, Mohammad Yazed Saleh, is set to shed light on his cross-Canada escapade, culminating in his apprehension on a boat adrift in the Atlantic Ocean. Saleh, facing outstanding arrest warrants from 2023 in British Columbia and Alberta for weapons offenses, allegedly stole a truck this summer and made his way to Nova Scotia. Details on why he ended up taking a boat from a marina in D’Escousse remain scarce, although Saleh hinted at his motives during a court appearance in Port Hawkesbury. Despite interruptions from his legal counsel, Saleh mentioned in court that he fled due to fear for his life, citing significant financial losses and the abandonment of a thriving business. The provinces with warrants on Saleh did not immediately pursue extradition. In Nova Scotia, Saleh faces multiple charges, including possession of a stolen truck and boat, along with weapons offenses. Surveillance footage at the marina captured Saleh driving the stolen truck and later departing in the boat. After a joint operation near Sable Island, Saleh, described as heavyset with a distinct appearance, has been in custody. Although a bail hearing was postponed for further discussions between the prosecution and defense, it is clear that the Crown opposes Saleh’s release. Saleh’s lawyer indicated his client’s willingness to remain in custody pending ongoing discussions. The court scheduled a follow-up hearing on November 20 to monitor progress in the case.
